- Title
A Short Note on the Placement of Adverbs.
- Authors
Siegel, Jonathan R.
- Abstract
The article discusses the appropriate placement of adverbs in writing law reviews. It justifies the rule given by an editor in chief that adverbs should not separate auxiliary verbs from main verbs. It compares several phrases from old and modern literary writings that negate such rule. According to lexicographer Henry W. Fowler, the adverb goes between the auxiliary and the main verb unless special reasons suggest the need for a different placement.
