- Abstract
The article discusses a funding process of a project in Gravenhurst, Ontario which involved the local public of this area. For an indoor recreational facility to be built in Gravenhurst, a fund of 1.5 million &dollars; was needed. The fundraising committee decided that they needed three essential things namely wide awareness of and participation in the campaign, a quick growth of funds to show support of the project, and a special hook to get groups and individuals involved to the fullest extent. The campaign began on July 22, 1976 with an effort to get as many residents as possible involved. The newspapers were asked to run a regular feature called "Put Your Money On Ice", as the project involved making of an ice surface. This column reported on the activities taking place and inspired many groups and individuals to do innovative things. Ladies made everything from candy to quilts. Men roller skated to other towns. Groups held auctions, suppers and dances. Buttons were sold at fall fairs.
