- Abstract
The science of Qiraat has a very important place in Islamic sciences in terms of its relationship with other sciences and being a source for some sciences. As in other sciences, there are scholars whose names stand out compared to others with the works he wrote and the great contributions he made to the science of Qiraat. One of them is undoubtedly Ibn al-Jazari (d. 833/1429). It is mentioned in the sources that Ibn al-Jazari, after memorizing the Qur'an, made many scientific journeys throughout his life, took lessons from more than forty Qiraat scholars and trained many students. The most famous field of the author, who is also competent in other Islamic sciences, is accepted as the science of Qiraat according to the opinion of the majority. It is stated that Ibn al-Jazari is one of the top names in the field of Qiraat due to his valuable contributions to this science. The works he wrote about both qiraat-i seb'a and qiraat-i ashara left their mark on the field. Dozens of works he penned have been among the reference books of this field, left a great impact on later works, and his work continues to maintain its top position today. In this article, the verse work of Abū al-Hayr Shams al-Dīn Muhammad b. Muhammad b. Muhammad b. Muhammad b. Ali b. Yūsuf al-Jazari (d. 833/1429), one of the most famous names of the science of Qiraat, titled Kitāb al-tazkār fī qiraāati Abān b. Yazīd al-Attār is analyzed. In this treatise, some of the qiraat narrated from Abū Bakr Āsīm b. Abī al-Najūd Bahdala al-Asadī al-Qūfī (d. 127/745), one of the seven imams of qiraat, and Abān b. Yazīd al-Attār (d. 163/779-80 [?]), one of the narrators of qiraat. There are five copies of this work in different libraries around the world. This study aims to determine what Ibn al-Jazari has narrated in this treatise from the Qiraat transmitted from Abān b. Yazīd, a narrator of Āsim b. Behdala, one of the imams of Qiraat al-Sab'a. It is thought that the identified qiraat differences will contribute to the field and thus, Abān b. Yazīd will be recognized in the field of qiraat. In the study, first of all, information about Abān b. Yazīd and his scholarly personality and his position in the science of Qiraat are given. Then, the life, scholarly personality and prominent works of the author, who is considered one of the authorities in the field of Qiraat, are briefly mentioned. Subsequently, basic information such as the authorship of the work, information about the copies in various libraries around the world, and the content of the treatise are discussed. Two different copies of the work were taken into consideration during the analysis of the work, and the text was analyzed by comparing the copy accepted as the basis with the other copy. The Dirase section of the study is concluded with a general evaluation of the work and the study.
