The article examines the financial dollarization and dedollarization in Latin America. The region's banking sector is suffering from a systematic crises either from the currency risk on its own balance sheet or from an increased credit risk of its dollar loans and government bonds it manages in its portfolio. It is claimed that the dollarized external debt is the main source of the aggregate dollar liability of Latin American countries.
