- Abstract
Background: Community nursing care is focused on health protection and promotion, disease prevention and education in specific social communities. A child is placed in a professional family under the condition that education in a biological family is a serious threat to his or her health and development. A child in foster care is often marked by traumatic events and therefore has specific health care needs. In this context we perceive the need to uncover the potency of community nursing care for a child placed in a professional family. Objective: The aim of the qualitative study was to find out the particular potential of community nursing care in the context of child care in a professional family and to make up and form the role of a community nurse. Methods: We used the method of a semi-structured interview with professional parents. An important source of information was the categorisation of their statements according to three exploratory questions and sub-objectives. Sample: The research sample consisted of the four professional mothers aged between 26 and 46 years, selected by deliberate selection. Results: The interviews with professional parents have indicated the need to improve the content and quality of information about the child's health condition when he or she enters a professional family. The help aims to provide the assistance in crisis management and in the care for children with chronic diseases. The obstacles to high-quality community childcare are the following: The legislation enabling children to contact the original negative environment, automatic recommendation of pedopsychiatric care; frequent change of professional carers; the immaturity and unpreparedness of professional parents. Conclusion: Based on the results of our study, we recommend the job of a community nurse in foster care facilities who cooperates and is interconnected with professional families. The role of a community nurse in foster care facilities is to provide the necessary information to professional parents in connection with specific needs of the child and to provide support and professional assistance in crisis management and care for children with chronic diseases.
