- Abstract
The article "What Nehemiah 8 Makes Us Think About" deals with the Old Testament scripture Nehemiah 8 and its significance for liturgical scripture proclamation. The text shows that scripture proclamation takes place in a decentralized manner and in groups. Questions are raised about Bible communication, such as who should have access to it and who should carry it out. It is emphasized that scripture proclamation should not have any access restrictions, but it is also pointed out that there may be people who have difficulties understanding the scripture due to their cognitive abilities. The article also highlights the staging of scripture proclamation in Nehemiah 8 and emphasizes the importance of community and solidarity that can arise through hearing and understanding the Bible. It is noted that the needs of the people regarding the hearing of scripture should be taken into account and that the appreciation of the word of God should be expressed through festive acts and qualified personnel. The text concludes with the question of what happens when hearing the scripture is no longer a need of the people and calls for reflection on the significance of the Bible in liturgy.
