- Abstract
The article discusses the state of Jews during the period of the Polish Commonwealth. Jewish foreign policy was not appropriate for the seventeenth century Polish Commonwealth. The response of the Jews to the gradual decentralization of political power was the main concern of Jewish political strategy in Poland. The financial situation of Jews in the Polish Commonwealth was quite strong. Christian merchants in Poland were capable of investing their funds in land. One of the wealthiest merchants in Krakow, Poland, was Isaac Jakubowicz.
