- Title
The American Jewish Judge: An Appraisal on the Occasion of the Bicentennial.
- Authors
Morris, Jeffrey B.
- Abstract
The article highlights several Jews who have served on the American courts, and evaluates their contributions, common characteristics, and influence on jurisprudential developments. It is argued that among Jewish judges there is a singularly high concentration of interesting and important figures who possess common characteristics in their approach to the judicial role, sensitivity to civil liberties claims, and the impact on jurisprudential developments. Among those prominent judicial figures were Arthur Vanderbilt and Joseph Weintraub, chief judges of the New Jersey Supreme Court, as well as J. Skelly Wright and David L. Bazelon of the District of Columbia Circuit.
