- Authors
Ruiz Vila, José Manuel
- Abstract
The article presents a review of the bilingual edition of Dante Alighieri's work "Monarchia," carried out by Raffaele Pinto. The work addresses political themes and defends the existence of a supranational empire and the independence of political power from religious power. The editor suggests that the work was written after the Purgatory and in parallel with the Paradise. In addition, philological aspects such as the number of manuscripts and previous editions are mentioned. The article analyzes the translation of Dante Alighieri's work "Monarchia" carried out by R. Pinto. Although the translator claims to be faithful to the original Latin, he acknowledges that he has sought to soften scholastic technicalities and adapt expressions from medieval Latin to modern Spanish. Through concrete examples, the translator's ability to interpret and convey the meaning of the Latin text is highlighted. Furthermore, the extensive and detailed apparatus of notes accompanying the translation is praised. Overall, the translation work is considered exceptional, and the editor and translator are congratulated for their work.
