- Abstract
Ovaries harvested from three healthy domestic cats, had been histologicaly processed. At microscopically examination, beside a large number of mono-oocyte follicles had been also evidentiated follicles with more than one oocyte (multioocyte follicles). Such follicles we observed in the first three follicular development stages, they being relatively numerous in primordial follicle stage, but decreasing as occurrence towards antral follicles. If in the initial stage, the oocytes are comparable between them, in the following stages some of oocytes degenerate, so in the end of antral follicle stage we could not identify a follicle with more then one apparently normal oocyte. All identified De Graff follicles presented one oocyte, so it is difficult to say if one of them was multioocyte follicle at the beginning and lost the surplus of oocytes, or all the multioocyte follicles vanish before this stage. Based on the events development, we consider that the multioocyte follicles do not have major functional significance, at least not a positive one.
