- Authors
DeCoster, Vaughn A.; Dabelko, Holly L.
- Abstract
The article presents tips on how to manage diabetes in older adults. According to the American Diabetes Association (ADA), two in five adults older than 65 live with diabetes or impaired glucose tolerance. Treatment often requires changes to diet, physical activities, stress management and insulin injection. It is recommended that older adults be given assistance in accepting that they have diabetes. It is suggested that adults be informed about diabetes self-management. Another tip is to assist older adults in examining their values, sociocultural-economic-political environments, and diabetic health habits and outcomes.
