- Title
Why Does President Bush Oppose the Expansion of SCHIP?
- Authors
Gorin, Stephen H.; Moniz, Cynthia
- Abstract
The article discusses the expansion of the State Children's Health Insurance Program (SCHIP) which expired in September of 2007 and why U.S. President George W. Bush has consistently vetoed attempts to revive and expand the program. The author suggests that the argument is philosophical and that the Bush administration is only interested in providing support to the most needy of American citizens and that government-run health care is unwise. The changes suggested by the Congress are outlined and the author explains how the bill's expansion would effect U.S. citizens.
