Excessive crying in early infancy is associated with an increased risk of adverse outcomes for babies and their families. It is widely believed - by both parents and professionals - that this crying is 'colic', caused by digestive problems. This is rarely the case. This article argues that it is important to challenge traditional discourse and to support parents to care for their baby, rather than trying to 'cure' the cause of babies' crying.
