- Authors
Attard, Julie‐Ann; Attard, Madeleine
- Abstract
This article recounts the experience of a 13-year-old girl named Maddy who was diagnosed with mixed phenotype acute B-cell leukemia and developed a fungal infection during her treatment. The article describes Maddy's symptoms, the medical interventions she underwent, and the challenges her family faced throughout her hospitalization. It emphasizes the emotional toll of dealing with a fungal infection in addition to cancer and highlights the need for further research and improved medications to minimize the damage caused by anti-fungal treatments. The authors hope that sharing their story will provide support to other families facing similar challenges and encourage medical professionals to continue learning and finding better solutions.
