- Abstract
The article focuses on RMIT-Informit which signed a partnership agreement with the large United States CD-ROM and online database publisher, Silver Platter. Towards the end of 1995, Australian universities were offered the opportunity to trial the ERL software which would make it possible for them to offer Silver Platter and Informit CD-ROMs on their own networks. The trial was organised by Council for Academic University Librarians and the AUSTROM databases were selected for the trial as those in high demand, Universities used the free access in a variety of ways, many offered it to all academics and students logging up hundreds of hours of use and retrieving thousands of records, while some used the trial more selectively. The result as of February 1996 is that 14 universities will network the AUSTROM disc on their own servers using the EEL system and providing academic staff and students connected to their university networks access to a range of bibliographic databases using state of the art software.
