- Abstract
The article discusses results of a study aimed at determining the degree of homogeneity in profitability ratios and accounting measures across countries that operate under a variety of accounting systems. Among measures that were most comparable between countries were selling, general, and administrative expenses, operating profit margin, and effective interest rate. Cost of goods sold showed the greatest variability, followed by return on assets and gross profit margin. The authors also show pairs of countries the data show to be comparable with respect to accounting metrics. INSET: WHEN MY ROE ISN'T YOUR ROE..
