- Abstract
This article is an editorial that discusses the advances in genomics, genetics, and breeding of the cucurbit plant. Cucurbits, such as watermelon, melon, pumpkin, and cucumber, are important food sources, and researchers have focused on improving their quality and stress resistance. Recent progress has been made in the genomics and genetics of cucurbit crops, including the mapping of important traits and the identification of candidate genes. However, there are still challenges to overcome, such as understanding the molecular mechanisms and regulatory networks of certain traits and the interaction between microorganisms, environment, and crops. Overall, this research topic contributes to the advancement of genetic improvement for cucurbit crops.
