- Abstract
The present study inquired about the profile of the student of Spanish Language and Communication Education Student and the motivations associated with their professional choice. For this, a qualitative research methodological design was applied, using focus groups and semi-structured interviews as data collection strategies. The field work was carried out in the city of Iquique, Chile, with students and teachers involved in the aforementioned training plan. The findings showed that the students come from a medium and medium-low socioeconomic position, that their motivations, mainly altruistic, have a marked community and citizenparticipatory accent and that their pedagogical intentions articulate humanist positions with critical and social justice orientations. Finally, we conclude that it is necessary to value, visibilize and legitimize the biographical resource that such students embody in relation to their link with the most disadvantaged social classes and some lines of action are proposed.
