Sierra Leone.
- Abstract
The article reports on the status of the diamond industry in Sierra Leone. The industry continues to grow, boosting government revenues and stimulating economic revival. Gold and diamond hard-rock mining potential are largely unexplored, while rutile and bauxite mines continue to consolidate their production targets. Major investment in rutile is intended to increase production by the end of 2008. Most of the diamonds in the country are sourced from alluvial deposits. Artisanal miners account for most of the diamond production.
