- Title
The Odyssey Revisited in Marie Ndiaye's Ladivine.
- Authors
Gaensbauer, Deborah B.
- Abstract
In her 2013 novel, Ladivine, Marie Ndiaye adapts a parodic Odyssean framework to the interrogation of mixed-race identity and displacement that has shaped her fictional work since the publication of En famille (1991). Focused through Ndiaye's unique fantastical lens, the feminization and racialization of Odyssean themes and mythical forces in this portrait of four generations of women whose lives are shaped the by the consequences of the main character's decision to hide her mixed-race identity and pass for white adds a thought-provoking new dimension to her expanding gallery of fractured multiracial identities.
