- Abstract
A key priority throughout all of the European Standards and Guidelines for Quality Assurance in Higher Education (ESG 2015) is ensuring programme coherence. Achieving programme coherence requires appropriate alignment between intended learning outcomes, teaching and learning activities, and assessment. This article focuses on curriculum mapping as a means of ensuring programme coherence. Such mapping exercises may require programme teams to map their programmes using qualifications framework, and draw on curriculum models or taxonomies. Dialogue and collaboration is also a key part of the mapping process. The examples illustrate how internal quality assurance can be enhanced by a greater focus on programme coherence.
