- Abstract
A literary criticism of Lu Xun's book "Regret for the Past" is presented. It outlines the characters and the significance of the melancholic subject in relation to Sigmund Freud's notions of death drive and melancholia. It also examines subjectivity represented by the melancholic male subject and the oppressed female object. An overview of the literary work is also presented.
