- Abstract
Significance of different effects is studied when a travelling magnetic field interacts with an electrically conducting flow. Numerical experiment is carried out by using the open source softwares OpenFOAM, Elmer and EOF-library. The influence of individual electromagnetic effects on the flow behavior depending on the Stuart number is considered and the evolution of the fluid flow profile in a duct is discussed. It is shown that the shape of the Hartmann velocity distribution and velocity profile in the duct depends on the spatial distribution of the travelling magnetic field. The obtained results indicate that the longitudinal end effect influences the velocity distribution along the duct, and the transverse end effect does not change qualitatively the behavior of flows, but affects the flow velocity magnitude. A relationship between the occurrence of reverse flows and the calculated similarity criteria is demonstrated.
