- Abstract
Abstract: The analysis of the contrasting use of the pronominal suffixes in Ezek 1 shows that this has different functions. It is used both as a literary »bracket« and for the distinction between the parts of the body, or rather the individual objects, and the totality. Treated form-critically, the lack of a logical narrative structure and the stringing together of nominal clauses serve to make the succession of images appear as a sequence of separate scenes. This mode of presentation is chosen by the author because of the alternation between light and darkness in the appearance of the creatures which is described in v. 13. Finally, the concluding test of coherence demonstrates that vv. 14.15-21.23b1-4.25.27bβ are redactional expansions of the original text.
