- Authors
Hinrichsen, Eric
- Abstract
The article presents a criticism for the 1967 American comedy-drama film "The Graduate," directed by Mike Nichols. It explores the representation of the American bourgeoisic culture in the film. It says that Nichols criticizes the tendency of American culture to link monetary good fortune with happiness by emasculating the lead protagonist. It explores the emasculating process wherein Benjamin's manly appeal is being degraded to illustrate that wealth does not always bring real happiness.
