- Abstract
A six-phase AC motor is a conventional AC motor with two three-phase stator winding sets. Depending on the phase displacement, this motor can be symmetrical or asymmetrical. This paper investigates the optimal phase displacement to minimize the input current ripple of PWM inverter that is used to supply the motor. Single and double carriers are used in the PWM. Based on the analysis results, it is found that the optimal phase displacement is 60° when single carrier PWM is used and zero phase displacement when double carrier is used. Experimental results on six-phase induction motors with phase displacement of 0°, 30° and 60° are included to show the validity of the proposed analysis method.
