- Abstract
The article focuses on the euphoric use of stigma in researches being done on neglected tropical diseases. It states that stigma can be an essential determinant of health behavior and can also be a reason for social exclusion and isolation. It says that a narrow focus on stigma and social inequality poses danger in diverting the attention of an individual away from economic, structural, and political factors which may affect health behavior. It suggests that neglected tropical disease researches require conceptual frameworks of vulnerability or health-seeking behavior that examines all relevant factors.
