The article explores the social and political aspects of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) suffered by veterans of the Iraq and Afghan Wars by focusing on memoirs including: "Shadow of the Sword: A Marine's Journey of War, Heroism, and Redemption" by Jeremiah Workman; "Rule Number Two: Lessons I Learned in a Combat Hospital" by Heidi Squier Kraft; and "The Unforgiving Minute: A Soldier's Education" by Craig Mullaney. Topics include military psychology, popular culture, and activism by veterans.
