NOTHING IS SACRED: ECONOMIC IDEAS FOR THE NEW MILLENNIUM.
- Authors
Smith, David B.
- Abstract
Anyone who can cope with 'The Economist' magazine, or a serious financial newspaper, should be able to read the book 'Nothing Is Sacred: Economic Ideas for the New Millennium' by Robert J. Barro, for pleasure as well as profit, particularly as it is broken up into bite-sized chunks. There are also two highly amusing stories - the tennis match and why the Economics Nobel Prize-winner's ex-wife was so delighted to hear of his award - that will be left for potential readers to discover. The basic approach can be caricatured as Reaganomic supply-side, and would not surprise regular readers of the 'Wall Street Journal,' for example. It is, however, very different to the wet-interventionist approach, which is predominant in so much of 'old Europe,' including too much of Britain's financial press and the post-Margaret Thatcher Conservative Party.
