- Title
(In)visibilities, (De)humanizations and Globalizations: The Migrant Body in Border Film of the 2000s [1].
- Authors
SLAUGHTER, STEPHANY
- Abstract
The article looks at the depiction of immigrants in films released during and after the year 2000. Films mentioned include "Which Way Home," directed by Rebecca Cammisa, "A Day Without a Mexican," directed by Sergio Arau, and "Sleep Dealer," directed by Alex Rivera. The author comments on different ways in which the human body is depicted among Mexican immigrants, noting the plot of "Sleep Dealer" in which immigrants transfer their consciousness into robot bodies. The films "Under the Same Moon," directed by Patricia Riggen, and "Sin nombre," directed by Cary Fukunaga, are also discussed for displaying the vulnerability of migrant children as they cross the U.S.-Mexican border.
