- Abstract
This article considers the transmission of property by clergymen, particularly the prebendaries, in Murica, Castile, Spain, during the Ancien Régime in the 18th century. The author describes the ecclesiastical law that emphasized the donation of properties and other church assets to the poor throughout the region while noting that many clergymen passed their property to family members instead. Several charts and tables are presented that depict the number of cases of such acts by the clergy in Murcia at the time.
