- Abstract
The aim of this work was to determine the seroprevalence of the bovine leukemia virus (BLV) in dairy herds of Santa Fe Province. A lot of 747 samples were processed using the agar gel immuno-diffusion technique. A chi-square analysis was performed to evaluate the association between the category and seropositivity. The within-herd prevalence results were between 63% and 96%. The general prevalence was 79.1%, the prevalence for cows was 82.1%, 56.2% for heifers and 54.5% for bulls. A statistically significant association was observed between adults and seropositivity, these being 4 times more likely to be seropositive than heifers. The high seroprevalence of BLV found shows that the virus is widely distributed in dairy herds in the southern region of Santa Fe Province.
