- Abstract
The novels of Jarnés, by giving prominence to the main character, a school teacher, give shape to narrative structures related to the educational subgenre, the pedagogic novel or Tendenzroman and the Bildungsroman, the novel that focuses on the psychological and moral growth of the protagonist. In a sense, the Aragonese writer completes a new narrative series with a pedagogic streak, which has in El amigo Manso by Caldos, Pío Cid by Ganivet, Amor y pedagogía by Unamuno, or even Lo voluntad by Azorín, its best landmarks. An analysis of the narrative of Jarnés reveals a re-humanization process that manifests itself in the consolidaron of the Tendenzroman genre during the last stages of his literary output. Novels such as Libro de Esther and Eufrosina o la Gracia exemplify the humanistic -educational dialogue in Jarnés more accurately than in previous novels i.e. El profesor inútil or Escenas junto a la muerte.
