- Authors
Silber, Michael K.
- Abstract
The article focuses on the social composition of the Pest Radical Reform Society in 1848-1852. Religious motives that see abandonment of some fundamental ceremonies and principles of Judaism and positive affirmation of religious identity prompted some people to join the radical reform society. The author claims that despite the factors that made Reformgenossenschaft attractive to some social groups such as merchants, traders and artisans, other groups chose not to join the society. The study of social composition also implies that nonreligious factors play a vital role in attracting constituents for religious society.
