- Abstract
The article examines the literary tradition within which British novelist D. H. Lawrence belong to. It suggests that Lawrence was a modernist, but he also belonged to the novelistic tradition which was defined by British literary critic F. R. Leavis in 1948. It also cites several literary works that place him under the great tradition of the English novel, including the book "The Great Tradition" by Leavis.
