- Abstract
The article reports on the diagnosis and management of kidney stones as of February 2012. Nephrolithiasis reportedly has a 1% estimated annual incidence and a 15% to 25% lifetime risk, has a 13% and 7% prevalence in men and women, respectively, and is three to four times more likely to present in white than nonwhite patients. The article states that after an initial diagnosis of nephrolithiasis, kidney stones have a nearly 50% probability of recurrence after five years.
