- Abstract
The article presents the insights of University of Waikato Department of Arts and Language Education chairperson Terry Locke regarding English teachers during a final session of a conference. He states that English teachers know that they need to be optimists to survive, that strategy is a tool, and their job is to provide amusement. He adds that English teachers also know that standardization in important when talking, story-telling is important in survival, and geography is socially produced.
