- Abstract
Internal malignancies can invade the skin through hematogenous or lymphatic spread, or by direct extension from a primary tumor. Clinicians must keep a high level of awareness to detect metastatic skin disease because it is sometimes overlooked and difficult to diagnose. This article discusses breast cancer, which is the commonest cancer in women, and it is the most frequently encountered type of cutaneous metastasis in dermatology that initially was misdiagnosed by an infection by protothecosis. The recognition of skin lesions associated with an underlying systemic malignancy is of great importance for prompt diagnosis and for the initiation of proper treatment.
