- Title
Hypothesis: calcium carbonate as phosphate binder—the fallacy of relying on serum phosphorus.
- Authors
Bommer, J.; Ritz, E.
- Abstract
In this article, the author comments on the efficacy of serum phosphate concentration as an effective parameter to evaluate the effectiveness of phosphate sequestration and risk of tissue calcification of dialysis patients in Europe. The authors believe that the method mentioned is ineffective due to high mortality rate, tissue calcification and vascular calcification associated with it. Also discussed are the two common methods of evaluating tissue calcification.
