- Abstract
This article reviews the literature (scientific and otherwise) concerning the elderly, highlighting how there is a prejudice linked to age which leads us to think that we cannot intervene with the elderly except in cognitive recovery and rehabilitative terms. It shows how this prejudice is the offspring of those readings of reality organized by common sense and of those intervention models supported by the idea of an expected individual development, of which many theories are the bearers, including psychoanalytic ones. The article proposes an alternative for understanding the demand of the elderly, centered on their desire and for intervention aimed at maintaining systems of coexistence.
