- Abstract
Plant tannin is a secondary metabolite of polyphenols with strong biological activity. Due to its excellent protein binding capacity, it is widely used as an additive to reduce the degradation of protein during ensiling. In addition, plant tannin can also play a multi-functional role in regulating the silage fermentation quality, microbial community, rumen digestion, rumen methane synthesis, etc. Therefore, the paper reviews the physicochemical properties of plant tannin and the effects on silage quality and rumen fermentation, so as to provided reference for reasonable understanding and utilization of tannin in animal husbandry.
