- Abstract
The article "Virtues of Historians: From Antiquity to the 21st Century" analyzes the importance of personal qualities of historians throughout history. The author examines how virtues such as honesty, caution, empathy, and creativity have been considered fundamental in the development of high-quality historical studies. The book covers different historical periods and cultures to show how the definition and hierarchy of these virtues have had ethical and social implications in the profession. The change in the use of the term "virtue" among historians over time is also highlighted. The text invites reflection on the implications of studying historiography from the global south and on historicizing professional virtues in historical practice.
