- Title
Life Insurance Settlements.
- Authors
Segerstrom, John R.
- Abstract
The article describes the business life insurance or viatical settlements. Under this policy, a part of the cash paid in as premiums can be accessed by the insured and relief from future premium expense is offered. Similar to the mortgage market in the early 2000s, viatical settlements require diversification. Emphasis is also given on the need for bankers to understand the concepts underlying viatical settlements, as indicated in the Financial Accounting Standards' Accounting for Derivatives and Hedging Activities rule.
