- Abstract
The article discusses the history of the Issei and Nisei Japanese in central Montana between 1880 and 1960. It examines the significance of the railroad industry to Japanese Americans in central Montana, particularly the railroad known as the Great Northern Railroad (GN) and its relationship with the business enterprise the Oriental Trading Company. The article also discusses the railroad company the Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul and Pacific (the Milwaukee Road). It also profiles several Japanese Americans in Montana such as Harry Owye, George Matsu, and Frank Ninomiya.
