- Abstract
The article presents a study on the mechanism for piogiltazone (PIO)-induced sodium retention and the therapeutic strategy for the PIO-induced changes in renal sodium handling. Zucker obese rats were used in the study. Results indicated that PIO-induced sodium retention is specific in female ovariextomized rats. It also suggested that peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-α ligands can provide a novel strategy for preventing the PIO-induced sodium retention.
