The article discusses the way of fostering preservice teacher identity in science through a student-selected project. According to the authors, the education of students in general courses presents an important challenge to educators. It states that general education often becomes an opportunity for students to explore other ideas and disciplines. It emphasizes that student identity begins with recognizing that students have the right and educators have the responsibility to incorporate opportunities for self-authorship within learning.
