- Abstract
The article looks at the experience of Lachlan Macquarie, a British military officer, traveling from Astrakhan, Russia, to Saint Petersburg, Russia, during 1807. Historical information on the political atmosphere of Russia at the time is presented, noting that Turkey declared war on Russia in 1806, with Great Britain supporting Russia under the terms of an anti-French alliance.
