Title
AESTHETICS AND THE POLITICAL.
Abstract
The essay discusses ways in which art can be political, using the work of artist Francis Alÿs. Alÿs poured green paint along the former armistice border between Palestine and Israel in 2004, recreating the Green Line made by Israeli politician Moshe Dayan on a map in 1948. The author examines the relationship between the political and the aesthetic, including when an act can be considered political, poetic or artistic.
