- Abstract
The study, planned and conducted with the aim of examining the effect of aging in place on life satisfaction in older adults, was of descriptive in nature and was conducted with older adults living at home. 208 older adults were selected for the sample by non-probability convenience sampling method. "Information Form", "Aging in Place", "Life Satisfaction Scale" were used to collect data. It was determined that the social support available differed significantly according to age, and there was a relationship between the older adults aged 69 years and younger and the older adults aged 80 years and older (p<0.05). Aging in place, perceived social support, physical competence and life satisfaction were statistically significant according to educational status (p<0.05). The average scores of aging in place, perceived social support, physical competence and obtainable social support (p<0.05) of married older adults were higher than those of unmarried people and show significant differences. Aging in place was associated with the educational status of the older adults and this relationship was found between the illiterate and primary school graduates (p<0.01). There was no relationship between the total score of aging in place, perceived social support, physical competence, and the social support obtainable subscale and the place where the older adult spent the longest time (p>0.05). It is associated with life satisfaction and the place where the older adult spent the longest time (p<0.01). Research results show that aging in place can increase life satisfaction.
