- Abstract
Butimar Sessizliğin Kanatları, Kaan Murat Yanık’s first novel and published in 2015, tells the search for an alternative world where a psychiatrist, overwhelmed by the materiality of the world and unable to adapt to modern life, can position himself, be himself and live his own reality. An anonymous psychiatrist, who is in conflict with the outside world, tries to get rid of his loneliness/incompatibility thanks to the lives he lives in the alternative world he has created in his dreams. In the novel, which is fictionalized on the axis of dreams, the fact that a long dream seen/created by the psychiatrist is included as an internal case brings together two different stories on a fictional level. At the beginning of the twentieth century, a magical world accompanies the reader in the domestic incident in Yerevan, the capital of present Armenia. In this respect, magical realism encompasses all the elements of the work, expanding the boundaries of reality by bringing together the ordinary and the unconventional, magic and logic, and creating a new and different reality. In this study, Butimar Sessizliğin Kanatları will be analysed in the context of postmodern narration techniques such as metafiction, intertextuality, and magical realism, which combines East and West theoretically as well as thematically. Thus, the magical, fairy-tale and fantastic atmosphere of the novel, which progresses in the opposition and unity of matter-meaning, fantasy-dream, magic-reality, psychology-alchemy, and reality-dream will be revealed; the use of narrative techniques such as narration, description, internal analyses, dialogue, flashback, and leitmotiv will be determined; and the function of the magical realist movement in the language and style of the narrative which has themes of loneliness, alienation, love will be analysed.
